Nativity

It is in this tradition that the Nativity happens: Joseph takes Mary, riding a donkey, from Nazareth to Bethlehem, to register with her in a general census of the Roman empire.

Upon arrival at Bethlehem there were no hostels. On the road, Joseph sees a cave, on the side of a hill where Nazareth is and which, on storm days, served as shelter to the cow herders. When they arrive, Mary tells Joseph that “that one who is in me is pressing me very much”.

It is sunset, and Joseph goes out to look for a hebrew midwife. When he comes back, Mary had already given birth – kneeling down, according to the tradition, and gave her breast to Jesus. Without a midwife, without doctor, without a pediatrician. Her witness was a donkey.
