Population
The present work gathers data from births given in the squatting position in the period from 1975 to 1987, in Curitiba, a cosmopolitan city having a million inhabitants. No previous selection occurred and all the births were the normal cases occurred in the maternity section of Casa de Saúde Paciornik.
A group of 19.490 patients was assisted, most of them were primiparous women and the main age was 25, being 12 and 47 the age limits.
Squatting position delivery had been chosen by 64% of those women, cesarean section by 18%, and supine position delivery by 10%.
Almost the total group of patients was under the social security service, 82% of them were interned in the infirmary and 18% chose distinct accommodation. They had all been followed during prenatal period by different doctors.
Seventy percent of the women were white skinned and seventeen percent were yellow skinned.
Concerning blood groups, there were 42% of A+ and 31% of O+.
