The objective of this work is to observe the comparative action of the homeopathic medications taken by mouth and the action of acupuncture and chemopuncture, with points corresponding to those of Weihe (corresponding to homeopathic medications), in a tentative to multiply the action of the treatment through the association of both techniques. Chemopuncture was made with the injection of the homeopathic medications in the points indicated.

Action in the chosen points aims to:

a) Increase the energy intake of the patient, looking for physiological delivery labor with less physical and psychological stress.

b) An action in the psychic state, giving the patient a stable emotional state, with active and conscious participation of the pregnant woman in her labor.

c) Reduction of the time of dilation of the cervix, with the reduction of the pains of labor.

Homeopathic medications chosen were Caulophylum and Gelsemium, both in the C1 dynamization.

The choice of the dynamization was made according to the French school, with the objective of a typically organography action, according to the tropism of both medications.

That way we would have a fast and efficient action in a short time, while the higher dynamizations would act in a mental state before the organic effects and the action would be retarded; administration was done in drops from hour to hour.

Points chosen for acupuncture were:

Yin-trang 4IG (T), 6BP (S), both counter-indicated during pregnancy, since they can cause abortions, having as described action an acceleration of labor, as referred to in the bibliography researched.

The 30E was indicated as point of genital action.

Points in the ear - SHEN MENN and Uterus, with similar action to those already described, only different in the fact that the therapy in the ear has immediate, but quick action, while the points in the main meridians have a lasting effect.

Points for chemopuncture were:

15B, that has an action corresponding to the medication Gelsemium (Weihe's point), which was introduced in the point as an "anesthetic button", acting by mechanical stimulation of the point and at the same time increasing its action with the use of the corresponding medication.

Some authors consulted have used substances such as xylocaine and B complex for chemopuncture, that had only a mechanical action. Injecting the corresponding medication, we tried to increase the action of both and to make longer the effect.

4VC - it's Weihe's point corresponding to the medication Hydrastis canadensis, that has ample indications in gynecology, but as acupuncture point has precise indications for helping the labor.

Weihe's point corresponding to Caulophylum medication is found between the 4 and 5 VC points. That way, we opted for the application of an anesthetic "button" that had a mechanical action and acted as medication at the same time, since the indications of Caulophylum are almost identical to those of the 4VC.

The application of the needles was made as soon as the patient was in full labor; the needles were left for 40 to 60 minutes and, if necessary, the application was repeated later; needles were left for the same time again.

The advantage of chemopuncture resides in the fact that it is unnecessary to leave the needles in place for a long time, which allows the patient to move and walk. It has been proved that walking is good for the mother, reducing tension; gravity also helps the lowering of the embryo.

Homeopathic medications are produced in alcohol solutions; injections of those solutions are very painful, so we chose medications prepared with glycerin solution at 50% of distilled water. The medication was prepared in 2 ml ampoules.

In bibliographical research other points were indicated, such as 28VB for the uterine contractions, 3F, 67B and others that will be studied in the future.

We have also used a homeopathic formula for hyperdynamics and hyperesthesia. The formula associated equal parts of Chamomilla 5C, Lactura Virosa 3D and Ignatia Amara 5C

Lactocine has sedative and analgesic action; Chamomilla is indicated in mental tension and psychomotor agitation, and Ignatia has a similar action.

We had an effective reduction in pain and stress, with the decrease and regulation of the uterine contractions. The relaxing action has even made some patients sleepy and they slept for some hours during labor.

We didn't proceed to balance the formulations according to the examination of the wrist, that would be desirable, before the application of the specific technique; in these cases, we wanted to test the precise action of this combination of points in labor.

When they arrived to the birth room, the patients were asked about the treatment that aimed to help and make faster the labor.

We had good acceptance, even with those not familiar with the idea.

After the application of Chemopuncture all related that it was bearable and not painful.

MEDICATION USED:

GELSEMIUM SEMPERVIRENS (yellow jasmine)

A climbing weed of the South of North America belonging to the Loganiaceae family.

Active principles are Gelsemine, Gelsemoidine, Escopolamine, Ac. Gelsemic, deo volatile, resins. Allopathic employ: stimulation of the Central Nervous System.

General action of the medication: Nerve paralysis, moto-emotively, congestive symptoms with passive hyperemia of the veins and arteries, and consecutive action over the vein's nerves. Hyperemia of the brain, the extremities may be cold, the head and the spinal column warm. The face is red or purplish, injected eyes. Acute affections of slow development, chronic. Feebleness, prostration, sleepiness, numbness, hypersensitivity.

Type and constitution: A medication of the nervous system, it is indicated to sensitive individuals, irritable, with general weakness. Trembling, muscular prostration seems to be a consequence of the nerves' incapability of transmitting the nervous voluntary flux. Muscles seem not to obey the will; there is a sensation of tiredness and general debility. The pulse is weak and gets quicker at the smallest movement. A sensation of tiredness all over the body, the members seem very heavy, together with neuralgias and spasms, nervous hypersensitivity, sudden agitation and excitation or violent emotions. A state of emotional excitation.

Acute pains during labor, in the uterus region, irradiating themselves to the hips.

It is indicated during labor when dilation is difficult, with hardness of the uterus cervix.

It must only be given after the beginning of labor, and never before, since it can make the water break before time and delay the birth.

Gelsemium Cl. is also indicated for spasmodic uterine pains; according to dr. Ludlan it is also efficient in the post-partum, which pains are also spasmodic.

Trembling, discouragement, anxiety in expectation and anticipation.

CAULOPHYLUM THALIDROIDES INDIAN ROOT (blue ginseng)

Family BERBERIDACEAE.

It is a medication for women, for agony of the uterus, long labor due to a debility of the uterus, short, weak and irregular pains that bother but give no result; it is also indicated for the rigidity of the cervix; given with antecedence makes the birth easier.

Placenta retention or long lasting lochia due to atony of the uterus.

Repeated abortions by debility of the uterus. Passive hemorrhage prolonged after birth, feeling of internal trembling.

Uterine cramps after birth, (dysmenorrhea), uterine cramps, fake labor pains during the last weeks of pregnancy (Dr. Deway).

Dr. Boeland indicates Caulophylum for the labor in the preparation of an easy and fast birth. For fear and apprehension.

Congested uterus sensation; tension and feeling of plenitude. Spasmodic uterine pains. Short and irregular labor pains, spasmodic, without effective progress of the labor.

Caulophylum, taken daily in the 2 or 3 last weeks of pregnancy as preventive medication, makes labor quick and uncomplicated; it's a point for future researches since the present one analyzed only patients already in labor.

Dr. Hale (in New Remedies) tells that Caulophylum is a medication employed for a long time by the American Indians; the "squaw root” was proven on the relief of the suffering and weakening of the Indians during birth.

It has also an action over the muscles, on the smaller joints, genital organs muscles, motor nerves and maybe even on the mucous membranes.

He stresses that Caulophylum causes intermittent contractions of the pregnant uterus, and possibly also in the non-pregnant uterus, in which it is different from the Ergot that causes persistent contractions.

The North Americans Indians and colonizers used it for painful and long deliveries, the root was chewed before and during the labor.

Farrington indicates Caulophylum when there is extreme atony of the uterus. The pains can be severe but are inefficient in the expulsion of the embryo.

It is frequently indicated for nervous women in which the pain seems to be intolerable. The body seems exhausted, she almost can't speak with a weakened voice.

It is also indicated in false labor, spasms and uterine severe pains that don't progress into labor.

Menorrhagia or post-partum hemorrhages due to the diminishing of the tonus of the uterus, that is relaxed and cannot contract.

In the expulsive period the contractions of the uterus may be weak for the expulsion of the embryo, causing only pain.

ACUPUNCTURE POINTS

4IG- RO KOU (Deep Valley) - for toning a point of command of the IG. Commands energy; counter indicated during pregnancy; anticipates labor. It acts giving energy, helping against exhaustion during labor. Stimulating point for the F.S.H.

6BP- SANN-YIN-TSIAO - in sedation group of the Yin of the M.I. (R-F-BP). Meeting of the three Yin. Acts over the Yin symptoms, on the excessive Yang, internal and external contraction pains, excess in genital organs, bowels and stomach. Yin states - over excitement crises, nervous crises, violent pains, Yin is not enough to counter balance Yang. It is a passing point BP-E, (edema), spasmodic pains. Stimulation point for the secretion of L.H.

YIN-TRANG (P.F.M.) - acts directly on the brain cortex, lowering tension, stabilizing the mind.

30E-TSRI-TCHRONG (Energy assault) - For general debility, long labor, post-partum hemorrhage. Acts on the genital organs. Point of general vitality. Troubles during pregnancy, uterine dynamics, helps the placenta to come out normally. Weihe's point - Juniperus Com.

AURICULOTHERAPY

SHEN-MENN - Sedative, analgesic, anesthetic in many operations.

UTERINE POINT - Regulates delivery.

CHEMOPUNCTURE 15-SINN-IU (Calming of the Heart) - Weihe's point - Gelsemium. Disquieting, over excitement, trembling, spasms, tiredness (we verify the potency of gelsemium's action with its indication for uterine dilation).

4VC KOANN-IUANN (Origin of the Barrier) - Weihe's point - Hydrastis can. Application of Caulophylum. Alarm point of the I.D. Meeting of the YIN M.I. (R-F-BP).

All the emptiness, cold, profound tiredness, cervix contractions. Tiredness originating from the small pelvis, vertigo, pains under the belly button. Helps dilation of the cervix.

Point of penetration of energy in the cervix.

TECHNIQUE

The homeopathic medications were given Vo. in formula (aa) or separated - 5 drops from 1 to 1 hour, or 4 globules at the same time.

The acupuncture was applied: 4IG (AU); 6BP(AG) and the others in steel.

Chemopuncture: After the application of the needles and introduction of the homeopathic medication, approximately 2ml as "anesthetic button" in glycerin solution of 50% distilled water (medications in C1).

CONCLUSIONS

Homeopathy:

In the employ of homeopathy, we had cases that went from 3 hours of labor, woman of 32 years of age, first birth, from the beginning of the dilation, to inconclusive cases in which labor took 10 hours.

In 3 cases of hyperdynamics the homeopathic formula of Lactura, Ignatia and Chamomilla has reestablished the contraction's rhythm.

In one case in homeopathy and other in acupuncture the patients have slept for almost 4 hours during full labor.

One case showed no results and labor had to finish with induction by oxytocin.

The conclusion of the personnel that used the medications is that the results were satisfactory.

Acupuncture:

Before labor the effects were null.

In the beginning of labor, the contraction was stronger with introduction of the needles and less strong after their taking out, but the repetition of the application produces rhythmic and efficient contractions.

In 4 cases acupuncture produced hyperdynamics, that were steadied with use of the above mentioned formulation.

Apgar of the newborns, from normal deliveries, was of 9-10, with the exception of one premature delivery in a patient with DNG, in which forceps was used, which showed Apgar 4-8 after 5 minutes, and in which sedation with allopathic drugs had to be used, due to hypertension in full expulsion period.

Association of Homeopathy - Acupuncture:

In three cases the drops had no effect; the acupuncture was used and the evolution was to normal delivery.

Acupuncture is also indicated when hypodynamics happen during labor.

On the first births, that had to receive a caesarian operation, the application of acupuncture had been precocious, although the later evolution showed the need for the surgery, with DCP, fetal suffering, etc. Those cases were considered as failures.

Inductions percentages arrived to approximately 5%; bibliographies cite as normal up to 15%.

The induction has the inconvenience that the medications reach the fetus blood flow.

It was not necessary to employ analgesics or anxiolytic drugs, with the exception of the case of DHG in which the patient was sedated.

Homeopathy’s action, given with frequency and in growing intensity, combined with acupuncture, has shown effective results, with their association in precise hours of the labor.

A control group of 40 patients was established on the month before and no relevant statistical differences were found.

Nevertheless, we think that the results were encouraging.
